PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

4th – 8th August

✪ Throughout the week, our manager Catrina has been working with our members each day on a workshop all about reasonable adjustments! Every member has been filling in a useful sheet that they can take with them to important meetings, doctors appointments, or any other situations where they may need to show what small adjustments they need in order to access somewhere.

✪ Tuesday saw the our podcast team recording an interview over Zoom with a familiar face to the podcast – the Radio 119 team from the local BCB Radio!

Caitlin and Daniel—who visited BCB Radio last month—were joined by Charlotte to interview the team made up of adults with learning disabilities to discuss the work they all do for the radio and learning more about their favourite parts!

Keep an eye out for when this episode releases next week!

✪ The newest episode of the People First Podcast was released on Wednesday, featuring a local upcoming author with a disability Jan Greenwood! Earlier this year she released her first EVER book, a fantasy novel for children that will be the start of a series! It was lots of fun getting to record with Jan in our studio and getting to learn more about her book… even hearing some sections of it!

You can listen to the episode HERE!

✪ In the afternoon, podcast hosts Luke, Tom, Oliver and newcomer Jason had an interview with Karen Graham, the service manager of the local part of the charity Cloverleaf Advocacy!

We heard about their work through the Advocacy Provider Forum event earlier this year and wanted to learn about the kind of work they did to support all different types of people including adults with learning disabilities – as they do this amazing work all over the country!

It was lovely to speak to Karen (who very generously came in on a non-working day to visit our office!) and we learned lots from her that we can’t wait to see in the next few weeks.

✪ On Thursday, Alex did a presentation about the reasonable adjustments work, and how members can put their sheets on a QR code to share on their phones! This was a fantastic idea that Alex had in order to share his and we have been supporting members who are interested in doing that to create them.

✪ Friday over our lunch break saw the first of our brand new small socials! A small group of 6 of our members went out to Wetherspoons across the road

✪ On Friday morning, Charlotte went out with Debra to do some more work experience at the Chromosome Rocks shop!

✪ The week ended with a wonderful birthday celebration for our Team Leader Janet! Our members worked with Catrina to put together an afternoon tea on the table, and presented her with a lovely hamper present from the office.
