The last two weeks at PFKC have been such a busy time!
Our members have been busy with lots of different projects: from small socials, podcasting projects to some incredible events!
✪ The Monday Podcast Crew started off the last week of October with a very exciting interview on the PFKC Podcast Corner with local Oxfordshire country singer Katie Grace Harris!
We learned about her very interesting career, how she got started as a musician, the fantastic work she has done with the Oxfordshire County Council Music Service school groups and heard from our member Luke about Katie’s performance at this year’s Fairport Cropredy Convention!
This show became the newest episode of the PFKC Podcast Corner when it was released a week later.
✪ On Tuesday, we were visited by Erica from West Yorkshire Transport visited us to talk about transport on buses! Our members gave lots of feedback and had some fantastic conversations around ways buses are currently accessible for people with learning disabilities and how they could improve in the future.
✪ We got an article featured in the November and December 2025 edition of Able Magazine!
✪ Wednesday saw the final designs for our fundraising Christmas cards finally get sent off to be printed! 🎉
Staff member Angus has worked very hard with our members over the last few weeks to get them ready, so it was very exciting the week after to be able to see them all finished and delivered!
✪ Around the table in the afternoon the members did an introductory session for the love project work with Josephine from Manchester University who has been working with Dr Lucy Series on this research! The Wednesday group got to learn more about the project and read through the timetable of the different work we would be doing.
✪ Dr Lucy and Josephine, as well as artist, came back into the office the following week for the Love Project session!
It was a fully packed day of hearing the members discussing the different love-related questions, and what kind of support people can get from supported living and care companies to do the things they love. Everyone gave a lot of really good ideas and from our ideas the artist … created a really wonderful piece!
This was only the first part of our work with the love project so we will be very excited to see what happens next!
✪ Alongside the main love projects session on Wednesday, the Thursday group worked around love by getting craft for your love tree! Over these last 2 weeks members have been creating leaves that are personal to them, filling them with drawings and pictures of important people and places. They have all started to be connected to each other and displayed outside our office on the branches of the love tree.
✪ TO round off our first week on October 31st, we released our Halloween video – the not-so-spooky advocacy play, “Voices from the Haunted Hall”! Written by manager Catrina and filmed released with the help of every one of our Friday group members and staff, it tells a story all about why advocacy support is so important with a fun Halloween twist!
This was so much fun to record and we hope you all enjoy it.
✪ After a well-deserved Halloween weekend we started off November with an all day workshop with William, a producer from the BBC!
William did some very important work with our members all about easy view news – which is similar to easy read documents but for videos. He has worked with people with learning disabilities to produce several videos about important events in the news this year in an easy to understand way for people with learning disabilities. We all enjoyed learning about this and getting to talk through some of the different videos he has produced!
Then the podcast team worked with him to show the process of how we at People First plan, write questions, and record a podcast episode.. of course featuring him!
✪ Tuesday saw Adam and Catrina going out of the office with podcast members Nathan, Caitlin, Stephen and Daniel to University of Leeds to learn more about and start to podcast with a group working on a doucumatary all about learning disabilities!
✪ On Friday we announced this year’s Mince Pie Moment event! This is a special coffee afternoon for our members and their parents or carers where our Christmas cards will be getting launched.
✪ To finish up our week the November episode of our podcast spinoff show, the PFKC Podcast Corner! We spoke to a local folk musician that one of our team saw at the Fairport Cropredy Convention festival, Katie Grace Harris!
It was lots of fun learning about her career as a singer, a talented one-woman band, and her work for the Oxfordshire County Music Service!
