PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

23rd – 27th June

✪ Monday was a VERY busy day for our podcasting team!

In the morning they spoke to Pete Le Grys, the director of Photosymbols! They are an organisation who hosts a website that groups like us can sign up to in order to have access to HUNDREDS of easy read pictures and resources to help make documents more accessible.

Easy Read accessibility is very important to us at People First so we have enjoyed working with them and learning more about their work.

We enjoyed having him back in the office to talk about Photosymbols with us!
And in the afternoon we also spoke to Diane, the owner of Wave of Nostalgia and one of the organisers of the upcoming Haworth Pride event! It was very interesting learning more about the event as well as about her shop.

This episode released on Wednesday, as Haworth Pride is taking place this weekend on Saturday 28th July from 11am!

✪ On Tuesday Daniel, Adrian and Martin went with Catrina to the Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford to support the Safeguarding Voice Group at Safer Bradford!

We had a great time supporting the stall and chatting to people who came up about the importance of safeguarding, as well as members of Bradford People First who also supported! Coincidentally we ran into Donard, a recent podcast guest, who has signed on to join us at our Inclusive Wellbeing Festival this year!

Daniel, Adrian and Martin were incredible representatives of our organisation as they took along our Safer Streets leaflets and helped to highlight the importance of safeguarding, as it is Safeguarding Awareness Week. We are so proud of all of them!

Here is a fantastic piece about the importance of safeguarding from our friends at Safer Bradford, featuring Ish!

For more information on safeguarding and how to report safeguarding concerns, we highly recommend looking on the SAFER BRADFORD website!

✪ On Wednesday and Friday, our newest social work student Iqra has been doing a presentation about the social and medical models for disability to get our members feedback on them and how we do things similarly, or differently, at People First.

✪ On Thursday our members took part in the final session of the creative writing section of our Bradford 2025 wellbeing project!

This week we used the poetry skills from the last few weeks to write lyrics for a song (using the instruments everyone did in the music section) based on our HOPES and DREAMS! It was lovely seeing all the different things people came up with. We are very excited to be doing recording next week!

✪ Friday began with staff member Debra going with Jason and Daniel, as well as our social work student Nat, to the Chromosome Rocks charity shop in Airedale Shopping Centre to volunteer!

Nat worked and supported Daniel and Jason to do different jobs around the shop.

✪ And then later in the afternoon, all our membered worked together to do some work on our office spider plants now that they are having baby plants!
