✪ We started off our week on Monday by continuing our work from the week before with Dr Amy Kavanagh about. accessible information!
The week before our Tuesday group got the chance to speak with her over Zoom to learn about her lived experiences of disability as well as her professional work! So throughout the week the rest of our members have been checking out the recording of the meeting to talk about the project.
✪ In the afternoon, podcast hosts Luke, Alex, Tom and Sarah had an exciting interview with Jane Dyer, one of the workshop leaders during our Wellbeing Week! She delivered a fantastic information session about strategies to help our wellbeing like small exercises, and doing the things that make us happy.
We learned a lot about Jane’s work with her company that helps other organisations to improve wellbeing in the workplace, different books about disability she has contributed to and talking about how she planned the session!
This fantastic interview was released this week to, so make sure to click on the text below to hear it.
✪ Throughout the week our members have been doing some great democracy work by voting on our all-inclusive social event for Christmas later this year, supported by our Events Manager Sarah!
✪ On Tuesday, we found out some amazing news! People First Keighley and Craven has been nominated in the Inclusion North Awards for the “Charity of the Year” category!”
We are extremely thankful to the people that have nominated us and we hope we will be able to attend the awards ceremony later this year.
✪ Thursday saw the release of a very exciting video that the members on this day worked and recorded last week! It is a reading of a story called “Under the Same Sky”, which was written and illustrated by Britta Teckentrup. It is a very positive story about equality and inclusion, and our members wanted to make a video about it to spread a positive message!
We are so grateful to Britta and the book’s publishers Tiger Books for allowing us to release our video to talk about her amazing book!
We would definitely recommend the book for people of all ages! You can buy it online through Amazon and the Tiger Books website, or in any good bookshop.
✪ To end off our fun week, the members who come in on Thursdays and Fridays have been looking over all the amazing Christmas card designs everyone made earlier this year! They have been voting on which Christmas cards we will send to get printed, which we will sell to help raise money for our organisation!
✪ On Friday, one of our members Matthew did a fantastic presentation all about graphic design with Adobe Express!
Adobe Express is a free program that we use to make lots of the graphics and photos at PFKC – like posters, podcast promotional images, video thumbnails and lots more! It is amazing when we get to hear members standing up and talking to all our members about their interests
✪ Our member Lindsey also did some work with manager Catrina on Friday to get in some spooky Halloween supplies for our office! To prepare for when we will be celebrating later in October!
She worked with Catrina to look over a script for a new Halloween video project that we will be revealing more about in a few weeks…
