PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

21st – 25th July

✪ This week, our members have been focused on writing articles for our upcoming Zine for this year’s Wellbeing Week! This will be the second zine we release to mark the second Wellbeing Week, which we are super excited for!

Like in last year’s, every one of our members is writing a different article covering lots of topics: from projects and pieces of work we have done this year, different ways to help wellbeing, and much more.

✪ On Monday we got an amazing delivery, as we received our social work student Natalia’s reasonable adjustment letter that she has been working on with us! These will be used with our members in the office in an upcoming project.

✪ This Wednesday, the podcast team released a very special episode, featuring Justin from the North Yorkshire Police Hate Crime team! We talked about their work and how it effects people with learning disabilities as well as our Safer Streets project!

You can listen to the episode HERE!

✪ Thursday saw the FINAL session the Wellbeing Creative Project!

The members of the Thursday group have been finishing off their collages using stencils for letters, cutting out photos of themselves, and adding little doodles!

Then, using a square frame and our photocopier, everyone took different parts of their collage for the final piece – the album front and back  cover for the songs they have recorded using their music and writing skills they’ve built up over the last 14 weeks!

Everyone has done fantastic work and we hope all our members are extremely proud of themselves for what they have achieved both in the final session and the whole project.

Adam, Susan and Wendy have done fantastic jobs leading the workshops and supporting the members throughout the project.

✪ We’ve had a sad and a happy Friday, as from today we will be saying goodbye for now to Natalia, one of the student social workers who has been doing a placement in our office. In her few months of working with us, Nat has gotten to know the members across all 5 day groups, providing—in the words of our members—a bubbly, hard working, supportive and loving presence into People First! We hope that Nat will work with us again in the future through volunteering but it has been an amazing time to have her working with us. She will definitely be missed by all!

To finish our day off on Friday before all of our end of day cleaning jobs and our meeting around the table, Rebecca did a presentation about one of her favourite music artists, Ozzy Osbourne! This has been interesting to learn about for most of our members to celebrate him after his passing earlier this week.
