PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

(19th – 23th January)
What a busy week we have had at People First preparing for our celebration event!

Next week we will be downstairs in Central Hall celebrating the FANTASTIC work that all our members did in 2025! Across this week everyone has been writing down a few of the things they are proud of to read out at the event or record on a video.

It has been great to hear people saying about the things that our members are proud of and seeing members talk about the great work that others have been doing!

Monday also featured the first People First Podcast episode recording of the new year!

We got to speak to the winner of the Provider of the Year Award at the Inclusion North Awards – Bluebell Apartments, run by Durham County Council and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust.

We chatted with two workers at Durham Council, Paul and Sian, to learn more about Bluebell and how their supported living can support adults with complex needs and their plans for 2026!

On Tuesday our Board of Trustees met for their first meeting of 2026!

Our Board is a very important part of how People First KC is run, as every member is a part of the board and gets to have a say in how the charity is run. We have board meetings roughly once a month on different days which gives everyone a chance to attend even if they attend other services on other days!

They are supported by an independent advisor who makes sure everyone understands the things on the meeting agenda and to make sure the language is accessible to all.

Thursday saw us all going on a trip for our Creative Project to Cartwright Hall in Bradford!

We went to see the Turner Prize exhibitions for the prize winner Nenna Kalu and the 3 runner-ups, Zadie Xa, Rene Matić and Mohammed Sami! With the help from the fantastic guide Aamta our members got to explore all vastly different rooms and talk about the artwork.

Everybody had lots of different, interesting thoughts on each of them and it was great to discuss how each room made us feel different things.

What a wonderful and creative trip it was!
