PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

10th – 14th February 2025

✪ Following on from our member’s training about the Mental Capacity Act, we have been discussing about the importance of accessible information when making impartial decisions. This has led us to talk about bias and how it can influence us when we make decisions.

If you have visited our organisation you will be well aware of our love of chillies! So our members used a story about an election for a Chilli King or Chilli Queen to explain what bias means in a video, which you can find below!

✪ Our members have also continued to work on their presentations for our AGM next Tuesday! So many of our members are running for roles on our Board of Trustees and we are so proud to see all the fantastic work everyone is producing!

✪ On Tuesday, we were visited by Sammi from local organisation Healthwatch, who came to observe our work in the morning as well as talking to us about end of life care. Our members had a very good discussion and it was enjoyable to see so many different things being talked about.

✪ Wednesday saw Steven B, Amy L and Martin going with Team Leader Janet to Cliffe Castle for a wellbeing walk! We will be running a Wellbeing Walk session next week so they went beforehand in order to have a look at the trail. They enjoyed checking out their favourite exhibits then celebrated Stevens birthday from earlier in the month with his favourite, carrot cake!

As usual Steven, Martin and Amy were all fantastic at representing People First KC and we are all very excited for the walk next week.

✪ The new episode of the People First Podcast was also released! Our third show of the year is all about accessible information, and how important it is to help people with different disabilities to understand and access all kinds of information. This is a very important topic to us at People First, so many members of the podcast crew were interested to write their own sections about different ways of making information accessible – such as Braille, sign languages, Easy Read and much more!

You can listen to the episode HERE as well as on the People First Podcast YouTube page!

✪ We finished off Wednesday by getting a visit from Ruth, a worker at the Yorkshire Dales National Park, who came in to speak to our members about a trip there in the next few weeks! She spoke to our members about the route we will be walking on and giving us lots of interesting information.

✪ Jacquie, our Librarian on Thursdays, has reorganised our library display in the office! Our library is filled with lots of Easy Read books about advocacy and lots of other interesting topics which our members can take out and borrow! Jacqui added little locker filled with stationary and stamps for when she is helping someone borrow a book. Well done Jacquie!
