14th – 18th July
✪ We had a fantastic day on Monday with our all-inclusive Summer Party at the amazing Bradford 2025 venue, the Beacon!
A fantastic time was had by all, dancing away on the large floor, grabbing a drink rom the small bar and listening to the awesome live music from DJ Chilli T and Playing for Kicks!
Supporting us all were staff and volunteers from the Bradford 2025 team, and we thought they were all fantastic! They helped to make the night run really smoothly and make things as accessible as possible for our members!
We are extremely grateful for all the kind words we have received from their staff — their lovely words have made us all smile.
Throughout the rest of the week our members have been discussing the event and giving us some of their feedback for future all-inclusive parties and social nights.
✪ Tuesday saw a few of our members doing some work with Rosie to put some of our baby spider plants into new pots! We are looking at doing a project making videos of how people can look after the spider plants, which is very exciting.
✪ The podcast team this Wednesday uploaded the newest episode, featuring one of our member Shannon’s PA team Katie! She talked to us about her career in care and working with Shannon as well as her volunteering with the Girl Guides.
You can listen to the episode HERE!
✪ Sarah C, Tom, Sarah B and Steven went with Catrina for another session at Airedale Hospital! It was really incredible to see today how independent everyone was with the presentation, and how the confidence of all the members to speak in front of the student groups has increased since we first began this project.
✪ This week is the second to last week of our Bradford 2025 Creative Project, where we were continuing to do art with Wendy!
Following on from painting last week, this week the Thursday group made paper sculptures made from cutting out the first letters of their first and surnames! Everyone had their own unique piece with different combinations of colours, folding techniques and looks. Wendy then supported the members to do a short photography workshop of their sculptures, which will be doing more work with next week!
In the afternoon, we did some more work on the collages from last week, with each member cutting out pictures of themselves to stick around their painting work.
To end the session, Catrina lead an interpretive dance workshop where each member added a different move based on the favourite part of their sculpture and how it made them feel. This was a fun and energetic way to end a very busy day!
✪ And on Friday morning, Debra went with Rebecca P to do some more work at the Chromosome Rocks charity shop in Airedale Shopping Centre, supporting the the Down Syndrome Training & Support Service as volunteers by stacking DVDs and putting donated items out.
