PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

(12th – 16th January)
This week has been our second back at People First. And already, this month has been really busy with lots of fantastic work!

Operations Manager Janet started going through new action plan sheets with all our members to work on goals for the year, the Creative Project continued with a trip out to see the Turner Prize Artists, our podcast team have been planning the first set of interviews – and MORE!

On Monday our member Communications Lead Martin started our new Sign of the Week video series with volunteer and Makaton tutor Shelagh. Every Monday Martin teaches us a new Makatons sign relating to that week. The first video covers last week’s sign, which was “new year”.

If you aren’t following People First Keighley & Craven on our social media platforms already, you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. We give lots of updates about our members amazing work and release videos about disability just like this!

Podcast member and editor Alex has also started to create new theme music for this season of the People First Podcast! He has been working on this with the podcast lead Adam using a keyboard and an online music program. Later this month the team will be voting on which of his intros and outros are the best, which will end up being used every episode.

On Tuesday our Board of Trustees met for their first meeting of 2026!

Our Board is a very important part of how People First KC is run, as every member is a part of the board and gets to have a say in how the charity is run. We have board meetings roughly once a month on different days which gives everyone a chance to attend even if they attend other services on other days!

They are supported by an independent advisor who makes sure everyone understands the things on the meeting agenda and to make sure the language is accessible to all.

Thursday saw us all going on a trip for our Creative Project to Cartwright Hall in Bradford!

We went to see the Turner Prize exhibitions for the prize winner Nenna Kalu and the 3 runner-ups, Zadie Xa, Rene Matić and Mohammed Sami! With the help from the fantastic guide Aamta our members got to explore all vastly different rooms and talk about the artwork.

Everybody had lots of different, interesting thoughts on each of them and it was great to discuss how each room made us feel different things.

What a wonderful and creative trip it was!
