✪ We had a very fun start to our week this morning with a birthday party celebration for our beloved long-time volunteer, Margaret!
As well as being an incredible Volunteer who works really well with all our members she is also the mum our CEO Catrina! So we were all very happy to celebrate Margaret’s 80th birthday with her.
All day we had incredible musical work from DJ Chilli T and Alex who kept the vibe going all day! And in the afternoon after a lovely catered buffet lunch we had a great comedy set from our newest members Tyler, as well as lots of speeches and signers of “Happy Birthday”!
✪ Tuesday we were still downstairs out of the office to do a fun morning of photography for the Bradford 2025 Portraits of our Time project! Members who had expressed interest came in with an item important to them and showed them off in the lovely photos taken by Louise, who also helped us lean more about the project! There were a lot of really lovely items from teddy bears to trophies, and it was wonderful it to hear some of our members’ precious memories!
✪ For the rest of the day we had fun doing Christmas decorations, like building some colourful LEGO sets or making massive beautiful paper chains!
✪ Wednesday saw our Airedale Hospital presentation group getting back in for another session with a new student group! As usual Steven, Sarah and Tom all did excellent jobs presenting and speaking clearly to the students to help teach them about communicating and working with learning disabled patients.
✪ This week our People First Podcast team uploaded our episode featuring the team from Stride Theatre! This is a fun interview with a local day service supporting lots of different people – including adults with learning disabilities – to get involved in accessible performing arts.
✪ Most of our members had a very fun day on Thursday, going out of the office to the Outside the Box Cafe in Ilkley! One of our members Jane, who also attends Outside the Box, was working at the cafe serving and running the register so we wanted to go support her work! Many members have also expressed a want to have small socials at the cafe, so this was a good way for those interested to have a lovely lunch out!
✪ We had a very busy final day of our week! We did work with a new nurse from Waddiloves who came in to see what our office was like and to talk to our members. She stayed for a fantastic presentation that Rebecca did giving lots of useful information about diabetes for World Diabetes Day!
✪ For the rest of the day we all had fun creating some winter and Christmas decorations for the office!
