✪ Across the week all our members have been voting for the next social night! This month, they have been deciding between 3 brand new places chosen by our Social Night Organiser Sarah C and advocacy worker Angus! The winner will be announced next week on our social media pages and the Social Night page of our website, so make sure to keep an eye out for that!
✪ This week, our Team Leader Janet has been out of the office working at the Beamsley Project on our Learning Retreat Project! Janet planned the retreat alongside Holibreak and Equality Together and has been working with a team of fantastic volunteers to make it a special week for the people and their carers who came along. A few people from our office even got involved, as our Podcast Lead Adam lead a music session on Thursday evening, members Adrian and Ish led a session about constipation, and Daniel led an information session with Catrina about dental hygiene!
✪ To start off our week, on Monday morning Catrina led a session all about what are reasonable adjustments, and why are they so important? Our members had a great discussion about it afterwards.
✪ The People First Podcast also released a new short project from one of their team members, Shannon! In the video Shannon talks about her epilepsy and how it affects her life, both at home and at work, as well as detailing what it feels like to have a seizure and the support she needs day to day in the event of a seizure. The video also features two of her support workers, Sam and James, who talk about their experiences of supporting her epilepsy. We are very proud of Shannon for planning the video and starring in it to talk about her lives experiences.
✪ On Wednesday, the newest episode of the People First Podcast was released with Sean Farnell!
✪Thursday saw us out for most of the day at Airedale Hospital, where we were invited to an event to celebrate the one year anniversary of th start of our work at Airedale Hospital! If you don’t know, most weeks on Wednesday a small group of members go with our manager Catrina travel to Airedale Hospital to deliver a presentation to different groups of students about how to work with people with learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions by using our members lived experience to inform our advice. At the celebration we gave a shorter version of our presentation where all of our Thursday members talked a little about the work they do in the office.
We have loved delivering these sessions as it has given our members the oppertunity to speak about their work in front of a large group, challenging them to do something new and it has been incredible how everyone has gone for it! We would all like to give everyone who came to the celebration a big thank you for coming and listening and leaving lots of wonderful feedback and to Babs Fitzgibbon for organising and hosting us!
✪ To end off the week, we listened to a presentation from our new member Nathan about a guest he would like to interview on the People First Podcast, we watched the new video from the Big Thanks of Nadia’s speech, and members Charlotte and Matthew did some work to prepare for an upcoming Hate Crime event!
