PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

This week at People First Keighley and Craven...

2nd – 6th December 2024

✪ We started off our week with the release of the second episode of the PFKC Corner Podcast featuring Anton Lesser!

You can listen to the episode HERE!

✪ The People First Podcast team has been busy this week planning and recording their sections for our Christmas Special! This year we are doing another show covering lots of different Christmas related topics, so each of our members are writing their own sections that will all go into the finished episode. It will be the last episode we release this year, so make sure to look out for it in a few weeks!

✪ On Tuesday we had a very festive day doing some Christmas decorating in our office! Our colourful Christmas tree went up, decorated with lots of baubles as well as the LEGO gingerbread men some of our members made – with a Down’s Syndrome Barbie doll as our angel on the top!

✪ Our volunteer Nadia also shared a video of her holiday in Boston in the United States! She went there to talk about her experiences travelling with a disability and we loved seeing what she got up to!

We are all proud of Nadia – she encourages all members to go for their hopes and dreams, just like she does!

✪ The newest episode of the People First Podcast was released, featuring Adam Tasker the project leader for Take a Hike! Listen to the episode here!

✪ And on Wednesday afternoon, we went out of the office to Haworth to visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum to learn about the Brontë Family. who are iconic figures not just in our town, but all over the world! Their words held so much power and show us the impact our voices can have, so it was amazing to look around the website.

We look forward to working together in the future; especially with the new Changing Places Toilets currently being built to open in February.

Thank you Dianne, who worked with us at the Parsonage, for a fantastic day!

✪ Our Thursday group had their second session working with Antony from the People Powered Press!

We discussed our plans to create a large mural with a short slogan on it with the message our members would like to be put out there, as well as where in Keighley it could go! We all watched a video about how the People Powered Press works with local organisations like ours to help promote people’s voices through our favourite thing – self advocacy! We also talked about a lot of positive things about ourselves, like what our hobbies are, what we think our superpower is, the best piece of advice we’ve been given, and lots more.

We all really enjoyed working with Antony and are excited to continue this work in the future when we return to the Press!

✪ And to finish off our week (as well as doing some Christmassy crafting!), Matthew worked with our Staff Fire Marshal Adam on some training for other members interested in becoming fire marshals!
