PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

This week at People First Keighley and Craven...

11th – 15th November 2024

✪ To start off our week on Monday, our office team had a Zoom meeting with Mike, one of the members of Playing for Kicks! Playing for Kicks will be playing at our Christmas Ball in December, so our members asked him questions about the event.

✪ The People First Podcast team also had an interview with Ross Smith, the Stakeholder Executive for the Motability Scheme! The interview was organised by our team member Alex, who wanted to learn more information about the scheme and how it can support people with disabilities to get vehicles that are accessible for them. We learned a lot of great information from Ross and are excited to be releasing it next week!

✪ Tuesday saw the beginning of our Christmas Raffle! Our member Lucy worked with staff to print out tickets and hand them out to members to take home, as well as making a chart for in our office where we can track all the tickets we sell! The raffle will be drawn on our Christmas Ball party on Thursday December 12th, with lots of fantastic prizes up for grabs!

Ticket books are £10 and one ticket £2, and you can buy tickets by contacting the office via email or phone number!

✪ On Wednesday the new episode of the People First Podcast featuring Outside the Box was released! This is a very interesting episode as it features not only a staff member from the service, but also some of our members who attend Outside the Box talking about their experiences and the work they do there.

✪ In the afternoon, our manager Catrina with Tom, Sarah C and Sarah B to Airedale Hospital to do an induction session to students. Sarah B even read out a poem she has written about her work at People First!

✪ Finishing up our week on Friday, we had an amazing morning downstairs in Central Hall setting up a coffee morning fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support! It was set up by our member Charlotte, who organised the event. We raised an incredible £136.22 for Macmillan – it was so lovely to see lots of people in our community come in for a coffee and some cake and to help this wonderful charity out.

✪ And in the afternoon, we got an incredible visit from a very special guest – Brooke Milhouse, who we interviewed earlier in the year live at NAIDEX and who spoke to two members of our team on her podcast, Disabled and Proud! She spoke to us about her podcast and how she uses podcasting to promote the voices of people with disabilities and spread a message of equality! We all loved having her in the office and we got some amazing photos from her time in our office.

Thank you so much Brooke for visiting us! We hope to have you again soon. 💙
