We want to talk about our social nights. They are growing rapidly and becoming a hot night out in our area! These unique social nights are bringing together often 40 plus people with disabilities, learning disabilities and those who are neurodiverse. It’s always an awesome night out!
These events are really special, but you may be thinking that you haven’t seen any photos of them recently on our page. This has been a conscious decision made by members and staff at PFKC.
We believe that we deserve privacy to enjoy a night out without worrying about photographs being taken and then getting posted online for all to see.
We have worked really hard sharing online safety information with our peers so it felt completely against that to post images of socialising every month when it just isn’t necessary. But if we personally want to share photos of our night out we can do that if we have consent from those in the picture.
We often take photos of each other when we are working, we feel that is different. We make sure that these are taken with the permission of the people in the photos and they are only posted if there is a reason behind it and that people are happy with the images. These images help explain the work we have been doing and are great ways of showing loved ones; work we are proud of.
From time to time we may add a couple of posed photographs on our social night page if we chose to do so; but in the main you probably won’t see our social nights on social media. This doesn’t mean our social nights are not thriving, it just means we are prioritising our privacy.
If parents/carers would like to be kept up to date with images of all the amazing things we do just contact PFKC staff, they can support us to send our favourite photographs if we want to.
Many thanks for all the support of our wonderful social nights, as our previous Chief Officer Hanna said, “social nights are often the first step to advocacy” and we firmly believe that.
