✪ Our week started off with introducing a new staff member to the office – Katheryn, our new bookkeeper! Our Tuesday group members were introduced to Katheryn in the morning, learning about the work she will be doing at our organisation!
Welcome Katheryn to the PFKC team!
✪ This week was also the start of our celebrations of Deaf Awareness Week! May 5th – 11th is celebrated all over the world as a week to raise awareness of issues and barriers deaf people face in society, but also as a celebration of deaf culture!
On Tuesday our member our Communication Lead Martin led our work around deaf awareness, which involved learning about deaf awareness week as well as practicing different signs in British Sign Language by playing BSL bingo! All week this has been a very fun session to do and it has been really interesting for everyone to learn some simple signs, which we hope to start using more around the office.
✪ We all had a very exciting day on Thursday, as it was the start of our Creative Arts Project! Called “The Art of Wellbeing”, it is a 12 week project where our members will be doing different wellbeing activities through creatives mediums: 4 weeks for music with our Podcast Lead Adam, 4 weeks for creative writing with volunteer Susan, and 4 weeks of art with volunteer and PA Wendy! This project was possible thanks to funding from the Bradford City of Culture Social Prescribing Awards, where our members did a presentation about our organisation and our idea for this project.
✪ Earlier in the day, Catrina went Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope with Alex and Rebecca P for a meeting about potential work with them in the future… including helping to make the hospice more accessible! This was a very exciting meeting and we are SO proud of both Alex and Rebecca for suggesting so many fantastic ideas!
✪ We ended our week on Friday by doing some very creative work creating small books inspired by the Brontë sisters!
