PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

3rd – 7th March 2025

✪ We started off our week by welcoming a new volunteer to People First Keighley and Craven – Shelagh Crossley! Shelagh has worked with us many times as a Makaton tutor for our members and staff, helping us to learn signs so we can all communicate as accessibly as possible.

✪ Tuesday saw us interviewing two special guests on the People First Podcast: Debs and Georgia, the founders of a small business based in Nottingham called Ali’s Sensory Boxes! We met them last year at the This is Me Festival and learned a little bit about them, but the team wanted to have them back on the show so we could learn more about them and talk about the importance of sensory items.

✪ Wednesday was a very busy day for us! Instead of spending the day in the office, the members were out and about at the Yorkshire Dales National Park doing an accessible trail walk! Supporting them was volunteer Esta in a motorised wheelchair to help her move around the trail as well as the walk lead Ruth, who took us across all the amazing sights of the National Park. All our members had a fantastic time out and we got some amazing photos!

✪ Meanwhile, two of our podcast members Charlotte and Jane went to Manchester with manager Catrina to the Learning Disability England conference! They were on a stall doing interviews with the different guests and members of other organisations there, as well as getting to chat to some of the organisers from LDE! They both did some fantastic work and were incredible representatives for People First.

✪ Thursday saw our members celebrating World Book Day! They discussed their favourite books from childhood and today and created some fantastic bookmarks to give away to family and friends. Everyone got really creative and it was a lot of fun discussing all the different book choices.

✪ And to finish off the week, we celebrated International Women’s Day by having a session all about the history of women’s rights! We all learned a lot of new information and it was very interesting to see how far things have come.
