PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAUSE

10th – 14th March 2025

✪ Following on from our appearance at Learning Disability England’s conference in Manchester last week, throughout every day this week Charlotte and Jane W (who attended the event) have worked with the Podcast Lead Adam to create a presentation about what the event was and the work they did for the People First Podcast at it!

It has been very interesting for us all to hear about the fantastic work they got up to editing the different guests and speakers and representing our organisation!

NEXT WEEK’s episode of the People First Podcast will be featuring the interviews from the Learning Disability England conference! So make sure to follow the show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube as well as on our website! 👀

✪ That is not the only piece of podcast work the team have been doing across the week! Tom, Matthew H, Alex and Luke – after making a presentation about the podcast for our Annual General Meeting last month – have been working on filming a video of the presentation as there wasn’t time to show it at the meeting itself.

On Monday, Sarah C worked with Catrina making notes on the 2nd meeting of the United Nations‘ 69th session of Commission of the Status of Women!

Catrina is a #CSW69 participant and hopes to bring the knowledge about gender equality to members with learning disabilities.

Sarah enjoyed the session and we look forward to doing more work on this topic!

✪ Tuesday saw some members of the Podcast Team, as well as some newcomers to the show from the office team, recording their parts for this week’s episode!

✪ The Podcast episode this week as all about our members’ Life Stories, which many have made and presented in the office over the past few months! The idea for the episode started with Daniel, who wanted to present his story to share with our podcast audience. He worked with Nadia on recording the start to a podcast, as Nadia first presented her life story and has worked with members to create their presentations. In the episode she talks about what are the life story presentations and why we encourage our members to do them. Daniel was then joined by Stephen W, Charlotte and Kim (this was her first time speaking on the podcast!) who added their life stories to the episode too.

✪ Later in the morning on Wednesday, we all went through a feedback form for the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which the Wednesday group members visited last week! We enjoyed hearing everything’s thoughts on the trip and what things we would like to do again if we went back to the park for another walk!

✪ Sarah B, Tom, Martin, Steven B and Sarah C also went with to this month’s induction session at Airedale Hospital. In these sessions, our members run through a presentation to new workers and medical students about ways that people with learning disabilities who come into hospital can be supported, as well as the importance of communicating in accessible ways. Doing these presentations helps to build the confidence and speaking skills of our members, as well as giving them a platform to advocate for their own communication needs and those of other learning disabled people.

As usual, all five members were amazing and did fantastic jobs of representing People First!
