✪ To finish off a fantastic first month of 2025, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year! Every day our members have been learning about the history of different new year traditions, found out what all of our zodiac signs are, enjoyed some fortune cookies and Seaweed rice crackers and had lost of fun doing ribbon dancing!
One of our fantastic volunteers Wendy has also brought in some incredible books showing life in China, as well as some old very small shoes and a fantastic lion puppet!
Some members have also gotten very creative with making paper lanterns and writing with calligraphy! We hope everyday has had a fantastic Lunar New Year!
From everyone at People First Keighley and Craven… Kung Hei Fat Choi! (Best wishes for a prosperous New Year!)
✪ Monday also saw two volunteers Sam and Margaret completed their Makaton Frontline Wellbeing course today! Congratulations to them! We are proud to be a Makaton-friendly organisation and encourage all of our team to get involved with learning to sign.
✪ Our podcast lead Adam with Martin and Luke were out of the office in Bradford Cathedral for the 2025 City of Culture Social Prescribing PGM Awards! Martin and Luke did a presentation about our idea for the project that we were bidding to have funded and they both did an AMAZING job! They also went on the stall and talked to people from lots of different organisations about our project. We are so proud of Martin and Luke for representing People First at the event!
We feel very lucky to have been one of the projects chosen to receive funding! 🎉
✪ Tuesday saw us hosting the “Try It, Like It, Try It!” event at Central Hall! We were joined by people from Mencap’s Our Active Community team, Take A Hike, Waddiloves, Bradford District Care’s learning disability support team, Everybody’s Cycling, British Nutrition Foundation, Modality, IMAS (International Mixed Ability Sports), Exclusively Inclusive and Midge Driver – who hosted a lot of fun sport activities like golfing, archery, fencing, kin-ball, bowling, and many more!
Our manager Catrina even hosted an accessible dance session, and our member Adrian was up on the stage leading his Wake Up, Shake Up session!
The event was a lot of fun and it was amazing so see so many people from around Keighley and Craven having fun with accessible sports!
✪ We also had a visit from local nurse Julie Hodgins, who we interviewed as a guest on the People First Podcast! Charlotte, Caitlin and Lindsey asked her questions about women’s health and periods, and we learned lots of interesting and useful information to share.
✪ Thursday saw our first Social Night of 2025, which took place downstairs in Central Hall! A lot of fun was had by all with games to play, a playlist put together by our own DJ Chilli T and food from a local takeaway!
✪ And to finish off our week, Charlotte received a certificate from Macmillan for organising her coffee morning last year and helping to raise money for the chairty!
