✪ We started our week on Monday by having a podcast interview with Anton Lesser – an actor famous for his roles in Game of Thrones, The Crown, and on the stage in Shakespeare plays! Team members Luke, Jane W, Alex and Graeme spoke to him in the podcast studio, but the rest of our office also got the chance to ask him questions from our office. We talked a lot about his career and learned a lot about his life and all the different work.
A big thank you to Anton for being such a lovely guest – we all loved having you on the show! We can’t wait to share this episode at the beginning of December.
✪ Our Monday group also started making mince pie designs for our upcoming Mince Pie Moment at the end of the year.
✪ On Tuesday, our Admin Leader Kim gave a presentation about how to turn the computers on and off in our office! We are very proud of Kim for independently putting together this and sharing it with all of us.
✪ The People First Podcast team also did an interview all about AWARE, the Airedale & Wharfedale Autism Resource! The interview was planned by podcast member Caitlin, who invited their Project Leader Rachel Miller to give us more information about AWARE and what it does to help young people with neurodivergent conditions.
This episode will releasing next year in February, so make sure to follow our podcast on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Podcasts or our YouTube page to stay up to date with new episodes.
✪ Wednesday saw the release of the podcast about waste and management, featuring the Recycling Officer at Bradford Council Edith.
✪ All of our members also talked about how important it is for learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions like autism to be talked and known about more. Our manager Catrina was originally asked to comment about this for an article done by a university student, but as a user-led organisation we believed it was important to get the opinions of our members! It was an amazing discussion and everyone contributed really good ideas, and we are excited to see how the article turns out.
✪ And in the afternoon, Kenny and Sarah B worked on building some Christmas decorations out of LEGO! Including some lovely nutcrackers (pictured below!) to go on Catrina’s desk, and six cute gingerbread men to go up on our Christmas tree!
✪ On Thursday we were visited by Antony from the People Powered Press, who started doing a project with us for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture! We were all very excited to see him again after our amazing session at the Press earlier this year. We will be sharing details of our project soon, so make sure to keep an eye on our social media pages!
✪ We also celebrated the birthday of one of our incredible volunteers, Margaret Farnell!
And to finish off our week, on Friday we all did some Christmas crafting! Our members made soem lovley deocrations that will be going up on our Christmas Ball later in December.
