DESCRIPTION:  \nEvery year in June\, we celebrate Learning Disability Awareness Week. \nDuring this year’s celebration\, People First Keighley and Craven are hosting an online workshop all about learning disabilities!\nWe are looking for people interested in learning more\, as well as carers and members of groups that work with adults or young people with learning disabilities\, or ones who are looking to learn more \nOur CEO Catrina\, who has lived experience of disabilities\, will be leading the talk of what it means to have learning disabilties and ways that you can properly support people with learning disabilities in your life\, in inclusive\, supportive and respectful ways — with important input from our members throughout. \nWe can promise a friendly space for discussion with like-minded people in this community.

DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning Makaton Level One? 🤔 \nPeople First Keighley & Craven are providing training from our in-house Makaton tutor Shelagh Crossley for over 100 signs and symbols of basic vocabulary with lots of fun interactive exercises!  \nAlong with the training\, a manual containing all the signs and symbols will be provided\, and all trainees will receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the workshop! \nThis training is VERY much recommended for parents\, carers\, and professionals working with children or adults who may need to use Makaton to improve and support their communication.  \nThe training will take place at Central Hall\, Alice Street in Keighley on Monday 19th May from 9am – 3pm!\nFor more information or to get your place booked in\, call or email Shelagh with the details below! \n📧 info@shelaghcrossleytraining.co.uk\n☎️ 07919250037\n\nSessions are £85 per person.

DESCRIPTION:We have been invited by the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust to hold a special afternoon lecture session at the Education Centre Lecture Theatre at Airedale Hospital! \nFor the last 12 months\, our members have been going into Airedale to deliver awareness training to student groups as part of their Monthly Clinical Induction\, all about the importance of communication and the different ways doctors\, nurses and other medical staff can communicate with people with learning disabilities or those who are neurodivergent. We have loved delivering these sessions as it has given our members a great opportunity to show off lots of the amazing work they do here at PFKC\, and our incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do a larger presentation! \nSo join us at Airedale Hospital on Thursday 5th September 2024\, for a provided lunch and our celebration presentation! \n  \nOur presentation will include: \n\nAn introduction to our team\nInteractive communication session – including an introduction to Makaton\nHow can people with learning disabilities be positivity supported when a hospital visit is needed?\nThe Read Bag scheme\nHospital passports\nRespect forms\n\n  \nWe would like to invite any day service members of People First Keighley and Craven to come along to the talk!
